Women Council Asks Museveni for More Leadership Positions in Government

The National Women Council has asked Museveni for more leadership positions in government so as to increase woman emancipation.

According to the chairperson, National Women Council, Hajati Faridah, despite having women in some leadership positions in Government, they will need more representation in various offices that are majorly male-dominated.

She made the remarks yesterday during the celebrations to mark the International Women’s Day at State House Entebbe.

This year’s celebrations in Uganda, which were held scientifically at State House, were anchored on the theme; “Building on Women’s strength for a better future in a COVID world.

Kibowa implored the Government to increase funding towards the Uganda Women Entreneurship Programme (UWEP) to deal with the effects of COVID-19.

She noted that women were the hardest hit in their enterprises by COVID-19, which resulted in loss of their capital, a reason government needs to increase funding towards this program.

Kibowa also appreciated Government’s efforts to ensure women involvement in leadership as seen in the key leadership positions such as the First Lady who is the Minister of Education.
