Uganda to start Covid Drug trials
According to Nettech Reliable Media health experts, Ugandans are set to start large clinical trials this month for drugs locally developed to treat Covid-19. Several drugs that were used to treat other diseases have also been experimented locally with success and are being used to treat Covid-19 patients to curb deaths.
Dr Monica Musenero, the senior presidential adviser on epidemics, told Nettech Reliable Media yesterday that they are working on the protocol for the trial that will commence on December 15th.
“We are in the final stages of planning for the clinical trial of the drugs that were developed locally for treating Covid-19. We are not giving out details about the drugs at this stage,” Dr Musenero said.
She was commenting on the communication by President Museveni last Sunday. In his address, Mr Museveni said scientists have developed seven wonderful products for Covid-19 treatment and six of which are under trial, and one, an immune booster, is already being used. He said the first three drugs are all antivirals that kill and eliminate the virus from the body.
