The Ministry of Health Lowers Covid-19 vaccination age to 50 years

The Ministry of Health has lowered the age of priority for people targeted to receive the Covid-19 vaccination from 70 years to 50 years.

Hon. Ruth Acheng told the press on Thursday that they have decided to lower the age of priority from 70 years to 50 years and also allow those with serious health complications especially non-communicable diseases.

‘As of today, we have lowered the age of priority of people targeted for vaccination. All persons aged 50 years and above and those aged 18 to 50 years with comorbidities such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes, liver, heart and kidney disease are now eligible for Covid-19 vaccination,’ Acheng said.

Currently, 144,025 people have received the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, according to the health minister, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng.

The Ministry commenced vaccination on March 19, 2021, starting with health workers, teachers, security personnel and people aged 70 years and above.
