Royal Family issues statement on Kabaka’s Health

The royal family has issued a statement in regard to Kabaka’s health following public demand.

In a statement issued yesterday, the royal family said the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ii, is unwell and undergoing treatment.

“Ssabasajja (Kabaka) has been unwell for a while. However, he has responded well to the prescribed medication and his medical team is positive about his prognosis,” they said.

The statement signed by princesses Nassolo, Sarah Kagere, Dina Kagga and Agnes Nabaloga followed public concern, especially on social media platforms about the seemingly unhealthy physical appearance of the Kabaka.

Kabaka Mutebi on April 13, made a public appearance to mark his 66th birthday but this was quickly followed by speculation regarding his health and wellbeing.

“The royal family would like to express their gratitude to the public for their good wishes, as well as for their concern towards Ssabasajja Kabaka,” said the statement.

When contacted, the Buganda Kingdom spokesperson, Noah Kiyemba, corroborate the statement but said the leadership at Mengo will inform the public about the wellbeing of the Kabaka when the need arises.

Early this month, while delivering the Kabaka’s easter message, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayinga, while responding to allegations that Mutebi has been in and out of the hospital in Nairobi, Kenya and being kept out of the public on account of deteriorating health, assured the subjects that “the Kabaka is well and will make a public appearance on his birthday.”
