President Museveni meets with Kenya’s delegation over Trade relations
President Museveni has met with a Kenyan delegation led by Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development Betty Miana.
The meeting which took place yesterday at State House, discussed various issues among which include the two country’s trade relations in light of recent developments like the ban on some Ugandan exports.
Maina, according to a statement issued from State House, delivered a special message from President Uhuru Kenyatta to President Yoweri Museveni.
Museveni said competition was the essence of a common market in trade explaining that in trade, a partner who cannot compete ceases.
On milk, Museveni warned that there should never be imported powdered milk and sugar into Uganda.
On the issue of the ban of Uganda’s maize export to Kenya, Maina said the problem was twofold; toxins and moisture content in the maize from Uganda.
“The maize lacked a certain level of dryness by the Kenyan and East African standards.” She recommended that the local farmers be issued with driers.
