PRESIDENT MUSEVENI HAS ALLOWED TEACHERS AND STUDENTS TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta has allowed Teachers and leaners to use public transport as they move to school provided all the ministry of Health Standard Operation Procedures for Covid 19 are observed.

Speaking during The World Teachers Day celebrations held at State House Entebbe yesterday, The President said that if the set procedures in communities, public transport, and schools are observed, there is no reason as to why leaners and teachers cannot use public transport. “Even you teachers, when you’re coming from where you are staying, don’t agree to sit in a vehicle which is crowded. And If they give you problems, think of how you can improvise because these are just candidate classes, not the whole school.” President Museveni said.

The president said this in response to concerns raised by Filbert Baguma, the General Secretary Uganda National Teacher Association (UNATU) who raised concerns about Teachers and students who cannot access private means and are not living in the teachers’ quarters.

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Sports said that teachers and students are not allowed to use public means of transport including taxis, vans, and boda-bodas and advised parents without private transport means to enroll their children in the nearby schools as they reopen for finalists in October as part of the new guidelines for Schools.
