The chairperson of National Resistance Movement (NRM) and also The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni Kaguta handed over value addition equipment and grants to beneficially farmer organizations at Namalere Agricultural Referral Mechanization Centre in Wakiso recently.
During the event, The President said the equipment will be taken to the villages in Wakiso and the project aims at reminding farmers that agriculture is a business so they should earn from it.
He appreciated the fact that these machines are made in Uganda by companies like Musa Body Limited among others and added that Uganda is going the right direction in Agriculture.
Museveni revealed that the Palm oil project in Kalangala is yielding a lot for the people and more industries are in pipeline to reduce importation.
“We are building for you a leather processing plant at Kawumu and we are also going to put up an industry to make paper out of banana fibers. This is because we are spending about $300m importing paper.” He stated.
The president warned the people of NAADS and the Ministry of Agriculture to take note of the fake imported seeds and focus on good local seed.
“For months now, I have boycotted onions because we no longer have ‘serious onions. We are losing our original seeds with real flavor like onions, tomatoes oranges, and others just because some outsiders said we should lose them. They must be restored.” Museveni explained.
He protested against the use of fake imported seeds and encouraged Ugandans to keep food with Ugandan natural flavors.
