Parliament to pay tribute to Onyango
Parliament has praised soccer star, Dennis Masinde Onyango for his dedicated service in raising the Ugandan flag high in the sports world.
In her communication to parliament during Tuesday’s plenary, Kadaga said a special sitting shall be held to pay tribute to the dedicated service of Onyango and contributed to the growth of sports in Uganda and Africa at large but specifically in the Uganda cranes team.
Commenting on his contribution following his resignation from the national football team- Uganda Cranes as its goalkeeper and team captain, House Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, said Onyango deserves recognition for his star performance.
“We want to thank him for his talented service at the Uganda Cranes and we hope that Parliament at an opportune time will hold a special sitting in honor of our national goalkeeper Dennis Masinde Onyango,” Kadaga said at the opening of a Parliament sitting yesterday.
Last week the Cranes captain Onyango in a letter to the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), announced that he was retiring from international football and goal-keeping for his home side.
“It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my retirement from international football. After much consideration, my family, managers and I, decided it was in my best interest to hang my gloves on my beloved Cranes Flag of Uganda Big thanks to every Ugandan over the years,” he wrote.
