NRM to Compensate its Supporters That Lost Property in NUP Protests
Speaking at the National Resistance Movement headquarters, the party secretary general, Kasule Lumumba said that, “For those supporters whose property and merchandise were destroyed and merchandise was destroyed, the government is compiling a list and I think at an appropriate time, the discussion will go on in Cabinets and compensation, if Government can, will have to be done.”
Lumumba explained that the recent riots affected mainly innocent NRM supporters and members who lost their merchandise and property like onions and tomatoes in Wobulezi, coffin sellers in Wandegeya whose coffins were thrown into the road and burnt by National Unity Party (NUP) rioters.
She also noted that compensation will also go to party flag bearers whose posters were destroyed during the protests.
On the matter of families that lost their loved ones, Lumumba said, the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda would issue a statement to that effect.
