Museveni Urges People of Luwero To Embrace Commercial Farming
Speaking at the campaign Launch in Kawum Luwero yesterday, President Museveni urged people in the area to embrace commercial agriculture and a farming model that maximises small space.
Museveni noted that a number of people in the area have stuck to subsistence farming which is due to land fragmentation.
“Instead of Parcelling land when the caretaker passes on, work together and share proceeds. Parcelling land can bring in money, but there is a limit to what you can do with such land.”
He advised the people to embrace piggery, poultry farming, mushroom or vegetable growing to maximise revenue.
Museveni praised the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) programme for boosting commercial farming and shared a list of successful farmers in the region.
One of the farmers is Ssebuwufu Mitala, who received 1800 coffee seedlings and planted them on five acres, later expanding to eight and earning enough to build a house and educate his children.
