Hon. Jacob Aulayah declared Uganda’s New Speaker of Parliament
The Former deputy of Speaker, Hon. Jacob Aulayah has been declared Uganda’s new speaker of Parliament.
Aulayah scored 138 votes beating his former boss Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga who scared 197votes and Forum for Democratic party Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda who is the Member of Parliament for Kiira Municipality.
Voting was done by the 529 members of the 11th parliament who were all sworn in last week.
This has been during their first meeting held at Kololo play grounds presided over by Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo.
According to Article 82 of the constitution of Uganda, the Chief Justice or a judge designated by the Chief Justice presides over the election of a Speaker.
President Yoweri Museveni has been in attendance since as head of state, he swears in the new speaker.
