Govt Seeks Parliament Approval for Sh 336.8b To Purchase Radios

Government has presented a Sh 336.8B proposal to Parliament that requires approval, aimed at facilitating home learning for students who are not in candidate classes.

This proposal has come at a time when the 2020/2021 budget has already been passed and since radios were not included, Government needed the approval of Parliament.

Previously, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education noted that 522 audio and 390 video lessons for both Primary and Secondary learners had been recorded and the editing work to make them ready for broadcasting was ongoing.

The proposal will be scrutinized by the Parliamentary budget committee, after which a report with recommendations will be presented to the plenary.

Other proposals from Government include; an extra Sh2b be given to the Office of The Prime Minister to fund an Integrated Intelligence Computer System.

The Finance Ministry to share Shs5b for implementing the electronic government procurement system.

Government has also proposed to Parliament, Shs3b to the Ministry of ICT for supporting the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation.
