GOV’T Hands Over 200 Motorcycles to Districts Leaders

The Government has today handed over 200 Motorcycles to districts through the Resource Enhancement and Accountability programme (REAP) to help in revenue auditing process.

REAP is a programme with which Ministry of local government in collaboration with Ministry of Finance is carrying out to help local government operations at the district level.

According to the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Rapheal Magezi, the Motorcycles are meant to facilitate the operations of the Revenue Management Units and internal Audit Departments.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Hon, Magezi said good financial management in local Government is becoming a concern of all stakeholders including the General public, therefore, the internal Auditors need to be well equipped with the necessary skills and facilities.

He noted that Government believes that competent, skilled technical and well facilitated personnel can best handle the wide range of services that have been decentralized at various levels below the National Government Ministries.

He appealed to the District leaders to ensure that these motorcycles are strictly used for the intended purposes.

Magenzi also reminded the leaders that the success of the decentralization policy in Uganda has been the high degrees of political commitment by H.E the President and the entire leadership at Local Government.
