Former Nabisunsa Girls headmistress replaces Simon Byabakama
Hajjat Aisha Lubega has taken over as acting chairperson of the Electoral Commision (EC) after Justice Simon Byabakama took leave of absence from the post.
The EC commissioner Stephen Tashobya, an advocate said Lubega is now seated in the office acting as the EC chairperson for the period when Byabakama is on a leave.
Tashobya was explaining why Aisha Lubega had signed a notice of the publication of the 2021 presidential general election results dated February 1 as acting chairperson of the body.
Her signature on such a serious document prompted speculation on social media, with many wondering what could have prompted Byabakama to skip the signing.
Meanwhile, Bukenya has said the commission has finalised ascertaining and compiling the results of parliamentary elections and will soon publish them in the Gazette in accordance with the Law.
