Cabinet Approves $390m Funding for Schools
On Monday, Cabinet approved $390 (about sh 1.4 trillion) for both Uganda International Fiscal Transfer Programme (UgIFT2) and the Uganda Secondary School Education Expansion Project (USEEP).
The fund is a loan from the world bank and $240M out of it will be for UgIFT 2 whereas the $150m will into $150m will go into USEEP.
A total of 258 secondary schools will be constructed under both projects including 142 secondary schools under USEEP.
According to minister of state for primary education, Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde secondary schools will be constructed in sub-counties without government secondary schools.
“The Government has done its best to ensure that every child is catered for and that is why the two projects were approved.” Nansubuga said
With the two projects, the government aim to increase access to education, reduce the number of school dropouts and early marriages caused by limited number of schools in the country.
