Speaker Kandaga launches Agro Genetic Technology in Mukono
The MP for Buyaga East, Eric Musana, has joined the long list of contenders for the opposition of Deputy Speaker in the 11th Parliament.
Launching his bid yesterday in a press conference, Musana said he is seeking the office to among others, make parliament and its processes more open to the public and redeem its tainted image.
In the race for the coveted office, Musana will have to face off with fellow National Resistance Movement (NRM) members, Anita Among, Jacob Oboth-Oboth, Thomas Tayebwa, Robinah Rwakoojo and Theodore Ssekikuubo.
If endorsed by the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the parliamentary caucus as decision making organs in the party, Musana will also have to face competition from Forum for Democratic Change Yusuf Nsibambi, the MP-elect for Mawokota.
Musana seeks to replace the incumbent, Jacob Oulayah, who wants to succeed Rebecca Kadaga as Speaker in a race that has attracted Rakai Woman MP, Juliet Kinyamatama and Opposition Chief whip SSemujju Nganda.
Elections for the Speaker and Deputy are expected to be held at Kololo Independence Grounds during the first sitting after MPs are sworn in between May 17 and 20, 2021.
All parliamentarians are eligible to contest for either of the positions.
