Akon Visits Museveni Promises to invest in Uganda
American RnB Artist and rapper Akon who is on a visit to Uganda met President Yoweri Museveni on Friday as he eyes investment opportunities that will extend his business footprint to East Africa.
Akon said while Uganda is a country of immense beauty and economic potential, much of this wealth is not known to the outside world because of what is told about the country.
He made the remarks during a press conference in Kampala on Monday. Akon jetted into the country on Friday with his wife, Rozina Negusei, and started his tour with a visit to Uganda National Mosque (formerly Gadaffi mosque), where he attended prayers.
Later, he flew by helicopter to Rwakitura, where he met President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni for talks.
On his visit, He reiterated his desire to invest in Uganda, especially the areas of tourism, infrastructure and energy, an area where his company Akon Lighting Africa, has already started projects in Senegal.
Besides the solar project, Akon also has a goal to build model cities in several African countries that he described as a real-life Wakanda.
“Africa has developed all other countries except itself. We want to be able to create a model that will make Africans proud. The idea is to utilize all the resources we have to build our continent. We want to take Africa to the place where it needs to be.” Akon said.
Among the investment plans, Akon plans to build a futuristic city in Uganda that will use a cryptocurrency founded by the musician, Akon by 2035.
