Agriculture outperforms other financial sectors in growth.
According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Executive Director, Dr Chris N Mukiza, agriculture posted the best performance in the 2019/2020 financial year amid a slowdown in the general performance of the economy.
Data from the UBOS reveal that Forestry and Fishing together with agriculture performed better than any other sector posting growth of 4.8 percent during the 2019/20 financial year.
However, this was lower than the 5.4 percent that the three sectors posted in the 2018/2019 financial year. The UBOS Executive Director, said, agriculture grew by 4.5 percent from 1.5 percent largely due to good returns in the food crops sector supported by livestock, which grew by 7.9 percent from 7.3 percent the previous year.
However, he said fishing registered slower growth of 1.9 percent in 2019/2020 compared to 41.4 percent recorded, which UBOS said could have been due to closure of some fish factories due to the COVID-19 related lockdown.
