44 cases of alleged Kidnaps received so far-Government

Government has said they have received 44 cases of alleged kidnaps with some of the suspects identified.

While presenting a ministerial statement to Parliament yesterday, Odongo said 31 other cases are yet to be identified.

Cases are mostly from Masaka, Wakiso, Kampala and Mukono districts.

Odongo revealed that some of the people who were arrested were charged with aiding and abetting acts of terrorism.

“I appeal to you, colleagues, and the general public to report to us any incidents of kidnap by security officers. We shall investigate each incident and provide information accordingly.” The Minister said.

Members of Parliament expressed concerns that many Ugandans have had their rights violated by security officers who kidnap them and detain them unlawfully.

Opposition Chief Whip Ibrahim SSemujju Nganda who first raised the issue last week as a matter of national concern, expressed disappointment that for all this time, there are over 31 Ugandans who were kidnapped whose whereabouts Police doesn’t know.
