18141 NRM Candidates Already Sailed Through in the 2021 Polls

The ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM) has a total number of 18141 unopposed candidates out of the 18900-total number of the unopposed candidates in the 2021 polls.

These candidates are in the parliamentary and local government council race according to Electoral Commission.

The number of the unopposed belonging to the opposition political parties are 219 while independents are 614.

Forum for Democratic Party (FDC) stands at 106, National Unity Party (NUP) 54, Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) 43, Democratic Party (DP) 12 and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) 2, Justice Forum (JEEMA) Party and Liberal Democratic Transparency (LDT) each has only one.

According to the EC report, independent candidates are dominating the race for directly elected MP seats. Out of 2028 nominated candidates, 1036 are independents.

NRM has 351, followed by FDC with 213, NUP 183, DP 95. ANT 93, UPC 30, JEEMA 14, EPU 5, PPP 3 AND CP 2.

Parties which fielded only one candidate for the directly elected MP seats include COSEVO, FIL, SDP and UEP.

The race for the district women representatives to Parliament saw NRM fielding 145 candidates out of 146 seats up for grabs, FDC 68, NUP 60, DP 25, ANT 23, UPC 12 and JEEMA 5. Those running as independent candidates are 301.
